About Pikkukala

Pikkukala is a leading animation and digital entertainment studio from Europe. Founded in Helsinki in 2012 by animation veterans Veronica Lassenius and Pablo Jordi, and established in Barcelona since 2018, Pikkukala focuses on the production of original entertainment for kids and families. With presence in both extremes of the continent, Pikkukala embraces its strong European identity and aims to create original animated content for the global audience.

What we do

Animation Originals

We aim to use the transformative power of storytelling and animation to create a positive impact in the lives of our audience.

We love good design, fun characters and interesting atmospheres. Our creations stand for values of respect, diversity and curiosity.

In 2022 we introduced “Royals Next Door” series, first season, introduced a royal family that moves to a regular house. Princess Stella’s adventures resonate with children worldwide and encouraged them to stay true to oneself while adapting to a new environment. We are currently working on a second season and a film in the universe of “Royals Next Door” following the success of the first season, created and directed by Veronica Lassenius.

With “Taste Buddies” (also created and directed by Veronica), we seek to spark the curiosity of children for flavours, and discover the superpower in their tongues though exciting adventures and music. We address the need for variety and the joy mixing simple flavours, inspired by the Nordic Nutrition recommendations.

We are expanding classic creations by Veronica “Fungi” and “Saari”, which are developing into new interactive project (Fungihouse) and a new CG spinoff series “Saari & Friends”.

Co-productions

Co-productions provide an opportunity to artistic talent from different cultural traditions to collaborate and explore together, enriching our work and our way to look at the world. We love to take part in beautiful and unique animation projects by like minded-producers!

In 2020, the series “Chien Pourri” co-produced with Folivari, Dandelooo (France), and Panique! (Belgium) was a successful adaptation of the books by Colas Gutman and Marc Boutavan.

In 2024 Pikkukala presented “Samuel” by Emilie Tronche, together with arte in France, RTVE and 3Cat in Spain, and Les Valseurs (France). The series, which was originally conceived for distribution in web and social media, has been a success, with more than 40 million views and a high engagement in the internet channels, and also on traditional broadcast in Spain with very good ratings and an enthusiastic fanbase.

“Froggie” is a new series created by Cécile Sady and Eric Noto which starting production in 2025, with Monello, Gulli, RTVE as co-producers.

Games & apps

Games expand the universe of our animation brands, which can be experienced in an engaging way. Respecting the core values of our creations and finding new angles we provide a true trans-media experience of our brands. The direct interaction with our audience

Our favourite platforms are mobile and UGC games like Roblox.

Adventures, puzzles and storybooks that help you learn, socialise, and let your imagination fly.

We developed some mobile and tablet games based on “Saari”, “Royals Next Door”, and we are developing Roblox experiences for “Fungi” and “Royals Next Door”.

Tech Statement

We have always loved to play with exciting new technologies for creation, with a critical mind. Our rapport with technology puts human creativity, privacy rights first.

We endorse a responsible use of automation technologies in line with the recommendations of Animation in Europe, and in compliance with the AI act and the digital content directives from the EU. We stress the need for transparency in training procedures and fair use of common ecological resources like water and energy.

We believe in the benefits of European digital sovereignty, and we give preference to Open Source software solutions whenever possible.
